Directions: From the N2, take the R44 turn off towards Stellenbosch, Broadway Blvd. At the traffic lights turn right onto the M9, Main Road, and continue until the 4th set of traffic lights to turn left onto the M168, Lourensford Road. Follow this until you see the turn off to Vergelegen, on the right. Cross the bridge and turn left, then left again to the entrance (fee R10, R5 for pensioners. Ask for an estate map.) Drive through and park at the wine tasting building.
Meet: walk through to the library.

Spend the morning in Sir Lionel’s library at Vergelegen where we will be shown some of the special books that relate to the Phillips’s life. We will be given a talk about the couple and their contribution to South Africa. Enjoy a light lunch at the Stables restaurant (drinks for own account) and then have a guided tour of the magnificent Manor House.
