Blue Plaques
The Cape Town Heritage Foundation introduced blue plaques in South Africa. This is an internationally recognised way to mark important historical events, sites or personalities.
We have general history blue plaques dotted all around Cape Town as well as blue plaques that are specifically awarded to noteworthy schools.
As part of the Heritage Association of South Africa’s initiative, when you see a blue plaque, take a photo and share it on social media using the hashtag #BluePlaquesSA. In this manner, you can help us build a database of blue plaques in South Africa. Please include the physical address of the site in your post so that we can find it.
